Track e-mail addresses.

Hey all, I am back again with a new post. It is related to tracking e-mail address and checking the authenticity of e-mails.  First of all a big thanks to people who responded in for my post on e-mail spoofing. I got mixed responses-those of you succeeded in trying it,good work;others just need to keep trying.

O.k! getting on track, how to track an email sender. Well its as easy as sending one. i am going to discuss here detection techniques for a few popular e-mail providers i.e gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc.

The first thing to be checked is if it is in spam.  If the mail is in spam,it is definitely forged.

For Gmail....
Open the e-mail you suspect. You would notice that beside the reply arrow, there is a triangular signed button.
press it and you will see a drop down list. Select "SHOW ORIGINAL"
A new tab would be opened. search for "RECIEVED FROM:", this would give you all details of the sender.

as u can see,u get all the details. Now if the mail i spoofed, gmail does tell you about it. it gives a warning in received: from section.

For Microsoft Outlook
Open the email in Outlook by double-clicking on it
Go to View at the top menu (the menu options for the email, not the main Outlook window) and choose Options.
You’ll get a dialog box where you can set the message options and at the bottom you’ll see the Internet Headers box. For some silly reason, the box is very small and you have to scroll a lot, so it’s best to simply copy and paste the text into Notepad to view it more easily.

For Yahoo.....
Open the inbox, there you would see an icon like this
select it and select full header option . this would open a new dialog box and you can get all details.

Once you have got the i.p address you can trace it or check its whois and domain info.
You would get all you need to know about that person. His location, city, etc.

Hope it was helpful. Keep reading and keep learning. Internet is too vast to know all
